Many, many sites on both sides of the isle, though predominantly on the Left (including diaries here on the Great Orange Satan), have been fantastic at explaining the unconscionable proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) law; bill H.R. 3261 is being considered in congress soon, and is expected to pass committee this week. It needs little explanation here, although there have been a plethora of yeoman's work in doing so. Here, here, and here to highlight a few.
But leave it to a couple of Metalheads in Brooklyn, writing a blog, to brilliantly emphasize to their readers just how bad it may get.
Over at Metal Sucks* the two owners, Axl Rosenberg and Vince Neilstein have been staunch critics of SOFA for a while now, even providing a graphic which explains the insidiousness of the law.
But the brilliant thing they did today was to drop the intellectual and moral argument opposing the bill, and instead show their readers a good look at how it will effect the content so many love. Taking a pragmatic approach, they hit home what the bill means to those who take their internet lives for granted.
Here's a quick look:
Adding the link to the petition, above the fold on each post, is genius. These guys are taking this seriously, and if you haven't already
signed the petition, please do.
I realize that the site probably appeals to less than 1% of KOS, but Metal Sucks is a VERY popular Metal blog, so much so that the two owners and main writers (who I disagree with a lot, but are damned funny) actually support themselves from the site. Many thousands visit the site every day, and what Neilstein and Rosenberg have done deserves some plaudits.
They've nailed it here, and laid bare to many people who would not have otherwise paid attention to SOPA, just what they may be in for.
So head over to Metal Sucks and show the guys some love for standing up for all of us in such a creative and engaging way
*although I have a Metal SN, I am in no way connected to the site other than being an everyday reader.
