The possible enigmatic well-wishes of the United States' President?
Yesterday,
Politico posted a piece that re-examined the over-examined question of when exactly President Barack Obama would complete his evolutionary process on the issue of marriage equality for gay, lesbian and transgender Americans. It's a good and fair look at the topic. Absent, however, is any new or compelling evidence to suggest his evolution is nearer to completion than the last four or five times we checked in with him.
This however is intriguing. The president and Michelle are alleged to have sent a letter of congratulations to a Brooklyn, New York gay couple on their recent nuptials.
Congratulations to you on this special occasion. Michelle and I hope it is blessed with love, laughter and happiness.
Your union marks the beginning of a lifelong partnership as you share the joys of your life together.
I wish you the very best as you embark on your journey together and I hope that your bond grows stronger with each passing year.
–Barack Obama
It's been picked up by a handful of outlets after Matt Katz posted it to his Facebook account. No one seems to have verified its authenticity, however. It is certainly a classy act, if it isn't a convincing prank.
Buzzfeed reports the receiver, Matt Katz of Brooklyn has no idea what prompted the presidential well-wishes:
"I'm not sure why the letter got sent to us. Aaron and I were married on July 24th at Borough Hall. However, we had our wedding ceremony on July 23rd at my dad's house the day before. Maybe word got out that we were outlaws for a day?"
Off to you, Mr. Carney. Or should we be asking
Jeremy Bernard?
