Calling somebody an "Obama hater": Really? Calling people "haters" is just asinine, not to mention a totally immature response. And I read that alot at Daily Kos. It pains me. I guess Cenk is now considered a hater... and what about Glenn Greenwald? There was a time that merely using Glenn's name in your title could land you on the rec list and now I rarely see his name anymore. Oh, and Jon Turley, a hero during BushCo is now just a turd. Incredible, isn't it? Because they dare express concern that our civil liberties are diminshing under Barack Obama. I, for one, agree. But I don't hate Obama and I assume none of the hate him either. Disappointed? You bet.
And while I'm at it, I'll tell you what else I find ridiculous. The almost 24-7 Republican road show on the Daily Kos front page. The never ending stupid photographs of Mitt or Newt or Ron... if I see one more picture of that crazed Michelle... I might just, well I don't know, call somebody a HATER!!!
I don't give one crap about those insane people. In fact, while I am for transparency, I'd really like to hide this branch of the American family from the rest of the world. How in fuck sakes can anybody take us seriously with these madcap men and women acting and talking like they've been sucking on a crack pipe. Seriously. This is not why I started coming to Daily Kos.
I'll tell you why I came here: for sanity. For solutions in regaining our country. Yes, Dr. Dean, I too want my country back.
But I'm pretty sure plastering pictures and running silly stories about Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum is NOT THE WAY TO DO IT. Forget third parties. I'm beyond advocating that. I've concluded this: it's about the issues, stupid. And we seem to confuse this with political parties...
Yeah. Okay. Look, I've read the now famous FAQs... and it does indeed say that this is a site to elect more and better Democrats (although, kos adds, not in that order)... and yet the MORE is first.
It also says in those FAQs that
...Daily Kos will be what Daily Kos is, and that oftentimes evolves.
It is a dynamic place and it evolves and perhaps there is a time to consider that partisian politics is passe.
I think #OWS has shown that much: Lack of political affliation makes for credibility, in the face of what I see as the total meltdown of good governance and leadership over these last 40 or 50 years.
We live in times when our oceans are dangerously overfished and polluted. Our climate is changing and while we're worrying about terrorism, we should be helping to formulate realistic strategies for living in our changing world. Can we find judges who will enforce accountability for the crimes of the last years. or must we be forced to watch as Dick Cheney sits in interviews and tells us how right he was and we should just shut up and get out of the way.
Rather than blather on endlessly about the Republican candidates, it'd be time better spent if Daily Kos front pagers ran some of the great ideas of this community... about living off the grid, working local politics, and community action. There are plenty of posters whose posts would well serve the front page.
Obama, Bush, Clinton, whoever. These people have disconnected from their duties and their charge of service to country. They have been caught in the rarified thrill of unaccountability and while protesters get battered, bankers are still raking in bonsues. And the rest of us ordinary people ought to just shut up.
Of course, this will change. Don't know when or how, but it always does. Question is this: do we evolve or do we keep banging the drum to elect Democrats?
Do we measure men and women by their records and actual plans or do we keep flickling those levers based on Ds and Rs????
It never occurred to me that Daily Kos was only about electing Democrats. After 2007 and my realization that Dems were not much better than Repubs, I got a lot of "read the FAQs" and this is a site to elect Democrats and you could get BANNED! Why someone even reported me to the site admins for my sig line. I thought: this is fucking crazy... here we are fighting for civil rights, but there is no freedom of speech here. WTF............
Well, for me, it was shocking. This place, this gorgeous place... this new political frontier, this new town square couldn't be so small as to be about only electing Democrats... or could it?
It is the issues, stupid. Stay focused on the issues and finding ways to get real people into politics... real people who understand it is about service and not power.
It's the issues, stupid... our values, our integrity, being good, honest. We can have social and economic justice... but brand politics ain't going to get us there.
