With his recurring stumbles, softening polls and flameout in the cornfields, it was beginning to look as if Newt Gingrich might not last the month, leaving poor old sweater vest man alone to fight Mitt the Draggin'.
Thankfully for fans and foes of the Illsbury Dough Boy, a white knight has come riding to the rescue.
AP is reporting that Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, our nation's 8th wealthiest man, will funnel $5 million (or more) into pro-Newt superPAC Winning Our Future.
Adelson, owner of the Venetian casinos in Vegas, Macao and other family-friendly vacations spots, is reported by ex-managers to loathe unions. So much so that he became an ardent foe of the Democratic Party because of its friendliness with organized labor. His personal contributions to candidates and committees reflect his political tastes, as well as a degree of comfort with teh crazy (Angle, Bachmann, Carly and down through the alphabet of Republican unhingement). His much more generous donations to PACs show the same generous leanings.
He's already ponied up a million for Newt's own personal PAC and it looks like he's ready to open the spigot for the Pale One.
Rick Tyler, a former top Gingrich strategist and spokesman for Winning Our Future, declined to comment on the donation, which was first reported by The Washington Post. Politico reported last month that Adelson was prepared to spend $20 million to help Gingrich.
First use of this newfound largess: firehosing South Carolina with a 27 minute anti-Romney TV ad entitled "King of Bain" (no word on whether Sting will file a "look and feel" suit):
“For the first time, this film will show what Bain Capital actually did,” said Rick Tyler, a senior adviser to Winning Our Future, a pro-Gingrich super PAC that acquired the rights to the movie on Friday. The super PAC is posting a two-minute trailer from the 27-minute film on a website Saturday.

So, far from going gently into that good night, it appears Newt is getting a much-needed refill of the mother's milk of politics to continue our work of educating the populace on the history of Bain Capital and its golden boy.
My sincere thanks to Mr. Adelson and all his gullible fellow Newt-enablers for their efforts in Winning Obama's Future.
