A couple of days ago, in one of Tricia Wyse's pootie diaries, i posted this comment about a new woozle baby I would be adopting.
I decided to name her Pygar because it's a character from "Barbarella," one of my favorite movies and she seems angelic enough to live up to the name of someone as pure as John Phillip Law's character in the movie:
She came home with me yesterday and, I must say, she's really impressed me with her behavior and intelligence. As soon as I brought her home she wasted no time in making herself right at home.
No depressed, unhappy animal in a new environment routine for her, no way. Within half an hour, she was eating, running out into the yard to relieve herself and mastering the doggy door. This is all very impressive for a puppy who's not quite 15 weeks old yet.
I was expecting to have a puppy racing around after me from room to room, nipping at my heels all day. Not Pygar. As you can see from the photos posted above, her favorite activity is lounging. She LOVES to lounge-anywhere she can, although the livingroom couch has been claimed as her favorite spot-although my bed ranks pretty high too, it seems. When I am lounging around, she's content to lie off a few feet away or snuggle right next to me.
She shows no inclination to destroy the house when I go. I left her alone in the house yesterday a couple of times. The first time she did try to leave with me and I told her she had to stay home. Upon returning, I found her fast asleep on one of the couches on the back deck, perfectly relaxed and happy as if that's where she belonged her entire short life.
I know that only a day has gone by, so far and there will be much to learn about little baby Pygar, but, other than her inclination to chase the kitties, she has impressed me with her native intelligence and willingness to learn new things. It sounds blasphemous for me to say this but, something tells me that she will be smarter than Stella, my German shepherd who died in October.
So, this is my welcome and big shout out to Pygar, the newest baby to my family and, hopefully, my companion for many years to come.
