US condemns bomb attack on Iran nuclear scientist
National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said the US "had absolutely nothing to do" with the attack.
"The United States had absolutely nothing to do with this. We strongly condemn all acts of violence, including acts of violence like this," said Mr Vietor.
Now as far as definitively proving who is behind the attack, well Israel also denies involvement (hah) but I feel that the denial from the United States is far more credible.
For one, when the United States is materially involved in something, well, shitty - the typical reaction is to carefully word a statement about how we all need to sit down and act like adults, maybe shame their puppet a little bit, and then move on like it's all settled.
See this article on the President's behavior towards Mubarak before his ouster by the Good People of Egypt.
Now this does not mean that the United States is not AWARE of who has perpetrated these actions; it's also possible that the United States shared 'enough' information with Israel - or whomever is responsible - in an 'Oops I just dropped that folder' like manner. Regardless, I am happy that the President has not authorized that Iranian blood be shed - civilian blood at that - in the place of Diplomacy. The President disappointed me on NDAA, but as long as America remains uninvolved in open murder of civilians then I can sleep a little bit sounder at night.
I believe the Administration because spokesman Veitor would not have been given permission to issue such a strong denunciation of there was any chance that evidence could surface showing America's involvement - given how easily evidence can be found and released over the internet that would be taking a big risk. Perhaps the Administration knows that Yahoo is behind it all but I wouldn't doubt that the President was as against that plan as he is against the constant expansion of settlers into Palestinian land.
But on the chance it is not Israel, it would be interesting for Iran to be murdering its own scientists as a way of getting political sympathy - who else would be behind it?
So in conclusion, I can clearly state I am happy with the President on this issue; violence solves nothing.
UPDATE:The BigotBasher writes a diary in response to these targeted killings of civilian scientists, noting the danger of war creeping ever so slowly towards us as belligerence leads to more belligerence.
