News apparently just breaking right now that Jon Huntsman Jr. is dropping out of the GOP race to endorse "frontrunner" Mitt Romney.
Let this end Jon Huntsman talking about "country first" and awesomely bashing Mitt Romney for being part of the reason our country is divided.
Huntsman has been casted as the moderate in the race, when his record is reasonably conservative sans his social views. I always found him to be a bit wishy-washy but overall, a man who seemed to be trying to bring back the "respectable" Republican that has been an extinct species since Reagan's influence started overwhelming the GOP.
But this move, if it's true, shows that Huntsman was merely attempting to stand out amongst the clowns of the GOP. It was common sense, to him and to some, that the GOP would just go with someone that wasn't Tea Party-affiliated and more "establishment" type. The problem was, it was Mitt Romney who earned the nomination; not Jon Huntsman.
Now Romney should see his Huntsman support really skyrocket Romney to another percentage point or two in the polls given Huntsman's tepid and light support.
However, let this show that Jon Huntsman put "party" first over country first and the media creation of him being "reasonable with different views" was a wash.
I'm not bashing Huntsman for supporting his party because ultimately, that's what failed nominees do. You rally behind your candidate nine times out of ten. I am bashing him, however, to support Mitt Romney after painting himself to be a country first candidate.
