I've been a reader of DailyKos for years. But I've never understood the diaries/posts/blogs of cats and cat photos. Nope. I simply don't get it.
Perhaps it's because my wife is hyper allergic to cats. She’s so allergic that if we’re at a movie theater and anybody around us has cat hair on their clothes, we have to move or leave. She’s so allergic that if we’re on an airplane, and someone brings a cat on board, it’s likely that the plane will land somewhere between point A and point B as she will go into respiratory arrest (even with the epi pin and mask the cats force her to wear). So I may be a bit more sensitive to these creatures than the average DK reader.
But these posts always seem to end up on the recommended list. Why? If instead a post was published that showed children doing fun things, that wouldn’t get on the rec list. Or maybe it would…what do I know? And why the strange word “pooties.” or "Woozles?" Why not simply call it what it is: “More photos of cats with clever captions.” Pooties makes me think of cleaning a dirty diaper. Woozles makes me think of being car sick.
I like that the rules to posting on this site are so liberal that anybody can post anything and that ‘anything’ might take off and be popular for a few hours. But cats getting the spotlight so often is a mystery to me.
Just my poorly worded ponder-rant of the day.
I know this post won't earn me any cat-lover friends. It's not meant to be a slam on people who love cats. I think it's more along the lines of why post them on a political blog site? Are we that starved for levity? Am I alone in this?
1:10 PM PT: Interesting Observation: Over 30 comments so far...not one "recommend." And not one tip. The defenders of the Pooties/Woozles are out in force. I notice many of you have posted photos. Nice touch. LOL.
You all seem like very nice people. Feel free to send some mojo my way for just bringing this up in a non-confrontational way! ;-)
