Every 2nd Saturday in April and November, I can be found, pumping dollars into my local economy, at the Mounts Botanical Gardens, plant sale. It's where I get almost all of my orchids, and unusual plants, that you don't find at the big box stores, or in some of the local nurseries where I live. Growers come to the show from the surrounding area and from places, where land is still cheap enough for growing. When I moved to Palm Beach Co, Fl in 1983, there were lots of growers and nurseries here. Enter prosperity, the snowbirds came, and now sadly a lot of former farmland is now homes or a strip plaza.
Two necessities I need: a wagon or cart to put all my purchases in, to haul to the car. Plenty of $$$ for the eye candy that is always calling my name. Oh, and the hubby to go back and forth to the car with that eye candy.
My method of shopping is I buy what I like when I first see it. I used to go through and shop, compare prices..Learned the hard lesson, that, what I coveted the most, others did also, and by the time I got back to a booth, usually what I wanted was in someone else's car.
I see. I like. I want. I buy. Is my mantra. Om...
I have my cart, so off we go.
Let's go check the orchid peddlers.
A shortcut through the butterfly garden.
Finds, bougainvillea, hibiscus and desert rose.
Across the foot bridge over the fish pond.
Its, bamboo and succulents.
We can rest a few minutes and watch and artist..
or watch a airplane get ready to land.
Back to shopping.
Take a few minutes to inhale the delicious scent of some roses and enjoy their beauty.
Shop for some what-nots for the landscape..are those "coconut" pelicans?
Can't forget fertilizer for all my new plant. Want them to look lush and pretty.
One last vendor to stop at, then off to the car. My purchasing is complete and my wallet is usually empty.
I hope you all enjoyed the trip to the plant show.
These gardens were decimated in the hurricanes of 2004, and 2005. It really broke my heart to see all the destroyed trees and plantings. But they are now finally coming back to what they once were.
