I need to first take care of a couple "house keeping" issues while I'm remembering; don't worry, I'll remind y'all again on Monday. :D
Since I'm going sparkin' live on Tuesday for Keith's coverage of SOTU, I'm foregoing TRMS diary that night. Okee - dokee? :)
Let's get historical for past January 20ths. On this date in 1936, Britain's King George V died. Why do I bring him up? Well, when he died, as is tradition, his oldest son became king. THEN, after a combination of him falling in love with a twice - divorced woman & not wanting to give her up, AND the British politicos having a herd over the idea, sonny boy abdicated, and his younger brother (Queen Elizabeth's father) had to take over.
By the way, Hubby got me this movie for part of my Christmas. :D
January 20th is the traditional inauguration for POTUSs; yep, I stayed home from work, watched, & bawled for President Obama's in 2009. :) We all actually got along politically for a day!
Finally, wish a happy 56th birthday to Bill Maher! :D Yes, I'm showing that "new rule" again because, as far as I'm concerned, it is Mr. Bill's finest hour. :D
On with The Rachel Maddow Show!
"Your Bags Have Arrived" - I'm really REALLY sick of seeing that opening question from last night's MENSA meeting. I'm tired of seeing Newtie's "outrage", and I'm tired of John King thinking he's an actual journalist. Blaming the media always works with the GOBP. Rachel wasn't real impressed with Mr. King, either. ;D She came up with some lovely alternate questions! POTUS candidates have a long history of "interesting" personal questions. Gail Collins just returned from SC. She DOES NOT want this primary process to last forever. ;D She still thinks Mittens will be the nominee in spite of himself. Rachel went on another IA rant. ;D
"Down in Front" - Mittens was SUPPOSED to win NH because MA candidates usually win. Mittens DID lose in NH in 2008. I read a decent chunk of that Senator McCentury opposition research material the other day. "Flip Flopper" is too charitable to describe Mittens. Mittens' day today was worse than yesterday?! Rachel made a great point; Mittens has spent NO TIME talking about his time as Governor or all the other times he's run for office. All he can talk about is being "a business man." His "business man" time was at Bain Capital. Mittens also doesn't want to reveal just how lucrative his days at Bain were & continue to be. Now, Mittens has admitted the economy's getting better - uh oh! Wow, that interview today HAS TO BE a Dem ad soonest. The Gallup poll boss thinks Mittens' support is collapsing. Newtie has spent Mittens - type money in SC against Mittens in ads. Mittens kicked journalists off the plane today?! DUDE! Steve Schmidt gets to chat about beating Mittens back in 2008. He thinks Mittens will be the nominee just because the other alternatives are *&^%$#@! Mittens' big advantage back in 2008 & now is his wallet. He tried to make himself THE conservative back in 2008, too, and had just as little success then as now. FL might take on a whole new importance to Mittens if he loses tomorrow night or doesn't win by as much as some expect.
"Is This Thing On?" - Yea, we already know Citizens United is 2 tomorrow. *&^%$#@! We saw Occupy protests at courthouses in cities all over the country - including mine! :) 25 people showed up to see Newtie; the other MENSA members had sparse crowds, too. The big crowd went to see Stephen Colbert & "Herb" Cain. :) Joel Sawyer's back again tonight. Enthusiasm varies with each MENSA dude. Guess who seems to be hurting in the enthusiasm department? ;D Mittens might not go to the next debate in FL?! Yea, that would be another self - inflicted spark up. Fake emails from CNN talked about abortions & Newt - in case folk didn't think the open marriage stuff was oogy enough; the SC AG is going to investigate this one. Mr. Sawyer thinks tomorrow will be close but that Newtie will win.
"Cocktail Moment" - Rachel's being bartender again tonight! :) She's making a "millionaire" - a Prohibition drink. She's using really high - end bourbon! An egg white??!! EEEeeeWWWWwww...although I'm more grossed out by the licorice stuff. And, she dropped the yolk into the thing. :) A nutmeg garnish??!! Oye'! I don't think I'll be trying that anytime soon.
