In an example of continued Republican disrespect of President Obama, Rep. Doug Lamborn (CO-5) says he will skip tonight's State of the Union speech.
I guess he's got more important things to do.
Maybe his dog needs a bath; maybe there's a cool new miniseries on a cable TV station; maybe he's tired and wants to go to bed early.
Or maybe he's a jerk.
He says he's sending a message to President Obama.
Congressman Lamborn is doing this to send a clear message that he does not support the policies of Barack Obama, that they have hurt our country.
Congressman Lamborn respects the President personally, and the office of the President.
Congressman Lamborn is protesting Obama’s recent 'recess appointments' to the National Labor Relation’s Board and newly-created Consumer Protection Board. He is protesting Obama’s decision to reject the job-creating Keystone Pipeline. He is protesting the President’s draconian cuts to defense.
See story here.
When I started writing this, I was all in high dudgeon about another Republican dissing the president. Why do we keep electing these jerks? What is their problem? Why cannot they simply attend a speech and show the basic respect that a major presidential speech deserves?
But now that I think of it further, you know what I really think?
Who cares? Who the fuck cares what some pissant backbencher like Lamborn does, or thinks, or believes?
I actually think the president will be better off without Lamborn in the audience. That's one less "You lie" to be yelled, one less mouth to be booing, two less hands to be clapping at inappropriate times.
Stay classy Doug Lamborn, and just stay home.
