I don't get it:
State lawmakers deadlocked Thursday over a controversial measure that would provide universal healthcare in California.
In a vote in which some Democrats did not participate, the measure received only 19 of the 21 votes needed for passage in the Senate, but it was put over for another possible vote next week.
If Senator Leno, the sponsor of the bill, did not have the votes yet, why did he bring it up now instead of on Tuesday, the deadline for the bill to be passed? Perhaps he wanted to see where the votes were, and who needs to be pressured.
I will update with the Democratic Senators who voted no or did not vote as soon as I can find the information.
12:10 PM PT: Information from the Sacramento Bee:
Senate Bill 810 failed on a 19-15 vote during this morning's floor session, with four moderate Democrats abstaining and one voting no...
No Republicans voted for the bill.
12:12 PM PT: News from Vermont
BRATTLEBORO -- Officials in the process of overhauling Vermont's "unsustainable" health care system released a 21-page report on how the state will implement a single-payer plan within the next three to five years.
12:13 PM PT: I have a call in to Senator Leno's office but no call back yet.

12:32 PM PT: Can't find any more information anywhere. Going to lunch.
2:26 PM PT: Senator Simitian was a yes. Still no information about the roll call.
But Senator Joe Simitian said he based his vote on a more basic question.
"Does every Californian have the right to access quality, affordable health care? Yea or nay? On that question, I am a yea," Simitian stated.
5:26 PM PT:
he CA Senate just took SB 810 up for a 2nd time today because there were members “absent†during the first vote. Sen. Calderon was the only one who voted who was previously “absentâ€, he voted NO. Correa was the other NO in the first vote. The others who were in the room but did not vote were: Padilla, Wright, Vargas, Rubio. So SB 810 failed by only 2 votes – 19 to 15. We need 21 to win.
