I can't believe this didn't get more play. From the SOTU:
Mr. Speaker, Mr. Vice President, members of Congress, distinguished guests, and fellow Americans, last month I went to Andrews Air Force Base and welcomed home some of our last troops to serve in Iraq. Together, we offered a final, proud salute to the colors under which more than a million of our fellow citizens fought, and several thousand gave their lives.
We gather tonight knowing that this generation of heroes has made the United States safer and more respected around the world.
President Obama was a contender for the Democratic nomination for exactly one reason: his opponents largely supported the Iraq War. It's hard to view the opening of the 2012 as anything other than a punch in the mouth to the people who supported his nomination in 2008. He's calling us out, making it clear that he didn't mean a damn word of it.
2013 is going to be awful.
Note: Some folks have asked what the point of diaries like this are. Well, I'd say that the purpose is to make clear that once Obama gets reelected in 2013 (if he does), we as Progressives should give up on getting anything valuable from this Administration and concentrate on organizing for downticket races and 2017. Obama has made clear that policy is irrelevant and success is irrelevant; what's most important is punching hippies.
Update:
I'd like to thank user gramofsam for the comment below:
I'd love to hear you tell (2+ / 0-)
a group of Iraq war veterans that they made us less safe and respected. To their face. I'd pay to see it.
Normally, I'm full of bluster on this shit, but FFS: can we not recommend the threats to have other people beat up people who are saying things we don't like? Or is that too much to ask of the DKos Obama supporter?
At least I didn't use my real name.
