This will be short, sweet and a quick easy action item.
I'm asking for help on a petition asking my Mayor, Kevin Johnson, in Sacramento to join the 80+ Mayors who have already signed the pledge agreeing to support marriage equality.
In addition if your mayor isn't on the list (link below) I also urge you to contact them and encourage them to sign onto the pledge.
The petition reads:
MAYOR JOHNSON, please join your colleagues. Sign the pledge supporting the Freedom to Marry.
Add your name and affirm that Sacramento also stands “for the freedom to marry because it enhances the economic competitiveness of our communities, improves the lives of families that call our cities home, and is simply the right thing to do.”
Join Mayors for the Freedom to Marry who are “working to build an America where all people can share in the love and commitment of marriage with the person with whom they share their life.”
During Mayor Johnson's campaign I emailed asking about his support of marriage equality and he replied with:
"I realize that my views are not the same as many in the community, but I am confident I will be one of the LGBT communitys biggest advocates if I am elected Mayor. I support the rights of same-sex couples in civil unions and domestic partnerships, and will uphold the Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage. I will not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind and will ensure the LGBT community is embraced by our city."
Won't you help me hold his feet to the fire and urge him to be the advocate he promised to me? Sign the petition here:
