Short diary. I apologize in advance. Many folks, especially those near major cities, are going to think I'm crazy for worrying about this.... We don't know who to ask, maybe EPA? We are thinking of buying a house about 8 miles from RDU airport, in the direction of the runways. The prevailing winds blow toward the house from the airport, out of the southeast. Considering the vast about of pollution coming from airports, I've been obsessing about this. I have read that living near airports are like living near a gas station burning out its fuel right there, all day.
Is it crazy to worry about that? We have a young child that we don't want to breath the pollution. Is this like living near a highway? Please don't say: you're going to die from something so don't worry about it. It's worth considering children.
Maybe the winds disperse after the first few miles? Maybe prevailing winds take pollution aloft? We really want the house.
If nobody knows, I will be calling the EPA tomorrow. Maybe I'll let you know what they say! Thank you daily kos.
