Again, here's a little "medicine" for those of you jonesing for WPITW. :D
It's time for "this day in history." On February 2, 1882, James Joyce, the Irish author of Ulysses, was born. Yes, I have read it, and it's not so bad as long as you remind yourself there's no real linear plot in the thing; I actually rather enjoyed it! Graham Nash is 70 today; he & David Crosby performed the first live vocal concert on Countdown. :D
And, just in time for that damn football game that's going to be in my fair city this Sunday, George Halas was born on this date in 1895.
Let's Countdown!
Thanks to David Shuster for filling in for Keith while he's still on the DL. :)
#5 "Praying on the Poor" AKA "For Richer or Poorer" AKA "Path to Victory" - Uh - oh! It sounds like President Obama espoused some actual Christian values at today's National Prayer Breakfast; that's pretty good for him being Muslim! ;D And, soon after that, the polar opposite occurred when Donald the Rump endorsed Mittens the Romney in Sin City. Mittens has quite the comfortable lead in NV polls. The Rump's endorsement might not make too much of a difference to most people. Mittens is having "buyer's remorse" for his CNN comments the other day? He's capable of self - reflection?! I didn't think robots had that in 'em! Newt's pi$$ed that FL is a winner - take - all state as far as proportioning delegates. Man on Dog got an endorsement from Ms. 2nd Amendment Remedy. So, will the aforementioned Man on Dog begin packing a frothy gun? :D Those were some interesting approval numbers for some states for President Obama as far as re - election chances. Sadly, I am 99.9999999999999% sure that lightening will not strike twice in my fair state; I don't think he'll win Indiana like he did 4 years ago. David Drucker gets "camel passing through the eye of a needle" duty. No other MENSA member has the organization & structure that Mittens does in NV; well, money buys A LOT. The mind reels at what Newt did to/with the Rump to get an endorsement that didn't pan out! ;D Mittens is desperately trying to walk back what he said to CNN; it's a little late, dearie. Andy Sullivan gets re - election duty. I don't know 'bout y'all, but the idea that nearly two - thirds of the American people expect a POTUS to have some sort of "religious" belief is a little frightening. If they don't, can we expect Crusades or something?! And, Mr. Sullivan stole my camel comment from above - THIEF! ;D I simply cannot envision President Obama NOT winning New York or California. And, Mr. Sullivan actually confirmed what I thought about Indiana; it sounds like this administration has already written this state off.
#4 "Level the Paying Field" - Senator Sheldon Whitehouse formally introduced "the Buffet Rule" as legislation. Anyone earning income over $1 million a year (including capital gains) would be taxed at a rate of 30%; hell, it used to be a lot higher! The rate would be gradually phased in?! Well, what the spark's the point??!! Senator Whitehouse gets to talk about making the Buffet Rule the law of the land. Doesn't Senator Whitehouse HAVE TO say the chances of this legislation passing is good? I don't think it'll get anywhere this year - not in the run up to November. I have a damn difficult time believing ANY GOBPer would be in favor of making the Buffet Rule law!
"Time Marches On!" - Little Jimmy O'Keefe is a hoofer at heart?! Who would've thunk it??!! A kitty is a heck of a boxer. :) Some Darwin winner decided that throwing a piñata would work instead of hoisting it up - BRILLIANT!
#3 "Planned Excuses" AKA "Muddying the Ribbon" - The Komen folk may have intentionally manufactured new grant rules just to be able to exclude Planned Parenthood. Man, this story is just getting more ugly by the day! *&^%$#@! However, I am thrilled to pieces that so much coin's been donated to Planned Parenthood in such a short amount of time! Rep. Cliff Stearns is the lovely GOBP Congress critter that helped to get this ugliness rolling. 26 Dem Senators have sent a letter to Komen begging them to change their mind. Trevor Neilson works in the philanthropy field; yea, Komen's image has taken a bit of a hit - to put it mildly. He thinks Komen's donations are going to go down - A LOT. I agree with Rep. Pelosi that this new rule should be consistently applied, so Penn State can see their grant go buh - bye very soon, yes? Mr. Neilson thinks all the folk in charge there now should be sacked. Senator Diaper Boy took credit for Komen's decision.
#2 "Hissed Off" - Mother sparkin' snakes are EATING mother sparkin' gators in FL? $HIT! That ground hog's damn ugly. HOLY CRAP! Look at that big 'ol snake!! They're eating deer, too? Racoons, possums, are white - tailed deer are on the menu, too.
#1 "G - OH - P" - I really really really really REALLY DO NOT want to think about Congress critters or politicos having sex! But, Michael Musto should at least make this odious subject fun. ;D Kids with lower IQs grow up to be "conservative" most of the time. Go sparkin' figure! OK, where's that cotton pickin' ice pick??!! Yep, cheating sex would be more "exciting," I'd wager. ;D
