86th DCAT Annual Dinner Speaker Announced
DCAT is pleased to announce that George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States and Founder of the George W. Bush Foundation will be the keynote speaker at the DCAT Annual Dinner on Thursday, March 15th.
Hmm...
What, you ask, is DCAT?
Founded in 1890, the Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association, Inc. (DCAT) is the premier business development association whose membership is comprised of companies that manufacture, distribute or provide services to the pharmaceutical, chemical, and related industries.
Sounds about right.
And where is this dinner being held?

And how does one go about having Jeeves RSVP?
Annual Dinner Table Availability:
Due to increased demand, we are tentatively opening a fourth ballroom for the Annual Dinner in the Astor Room. But in order to do so, we must guarantee 10 tables. Several companies and individuals have already expressed interest, but we need to hear from a few more of you.
This year, we’ve enhanced the viewing experience in the outer ballrooms by installing larger, raised screens with better sound quality that can be seen and heard from any seat in the room.
Please let us know of your interest in a table or individual seats by February 10, 2012.
Call 1-800-xxx-xxxx or xxxxxx@dcat.org.
Member Pricing:
$2,400/table of 10
$240/individual seat
Non-member Pricing:
$500/individual seat
February 12, isn't that this Saturday? Why yes, says Jeeves after perusing the social calendar, it is.
Oh, and Jeeves? Be a dear and and pre-order Cristal for the table (caution, .pdf), won't you? Charge it to Laura, she owes us one.
In all seriousness, I discovered this by mistake today. I've seen some controversial diaries here debating the wisdom of Occupy protests against Obama appearances here, while Romney and others skate in and out of town undisturbed. This one, I would think, should find commom cause among virtually everyone here.
I'd have to imagine that there are quite a few of my fellow NYers who would like to give the former President a very vocal and yet non-violent welcome on March 15. Has he been back here since he retreated from office via helicopter on Inauguration Day in January 2009? We need to make sure that his welcome back is memorable.
Expect a heavy law enforcement presence, by the way. The Waldorf=Astoria hosts these things regularly and the NYPD/Secret Service have the entrance/exit protocols down to a science. Expect to be corraled behind crowd control fences on Lexington & Park Avenues north and south of the hotel, along with 49th & 50th Streets to the east & west. Obviously, security will be tight for gaining access to the hotel itself. Bring signs and cowbells to "welcome" the motorcade. The more the merrier!
(Full disclosure: this post is of my own accord and represents my own opinion, and should in no way be considered to be affiliated with any past, present, or future employer! And, I xxxx'd out the contact info for the tux place and for the table organizer since I really have no interest in being complicit in prank calls. If you need a tux or want a ticket or table, go to the DCAT website.)
