WARNING: This will be a rant.
Yes, that was a blanket statement. Deal with it. Spare me any comments on it being unfair or overly emotional, I know that to be partially true, but mentally I've had it up to here. I am surrounded by wing nuts and I actually am witness to people getting excited about Santorum winning in Minnesota. I have seen full force the blow-out from the contraception fallout with Catholics. I talk to religious zealots, Rush heads, and people who believe George Soros is the emperor of the left. It's "the liberal media" this and the "liberal media that." Sarah Palin was a missed opportunity, a victim of Katie Couric, and people are fantasizing about A Santorum/Jindal ticket. I had a friend seriously want to learn more about Jindal and see if he was a good candidate, and they thought it might be nice because he's a minority and he'll show that the Republicans are not a bunch of middle aged White men.
I let out a primal scream in my backyard and then decided to write this to get it out of my system. If you are a conservative refugee from the Republican party, a conservaDem, or in any way right leaning, you will not like this, and I don't care. I have decided, I probably don't like you either.
When conservatives open their mouths they insult my intelligence. George Soros does not give me money to do anything. I didn't even know who he was until Glenn Beck started screaming about him! I don't know who the fuck Saul Alinsky is! I cannot be controlled by people that I don't even @$#@ing know! Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are not evil! Since when is paying for people's care communally to be construed as a sin? There is no war on Christmas and there is no war on religion! Even if there was, you have thousands of acres of lands, millions of dollars from tithe money and your side businesses (tax free!), an army of lawyers, and you have millions of adherents worldwide. If there were a war going on, you're more than equipped to wage it! I mean, this is why we're still fighting an uphill battle on the issue of same sex marriage when the public is coming around to it, because we have to slog through your lawyers and multi-million dollar advertising campaigns. This is why we have to swat away your person-hood amendments and remind people that they indeed do enjoy sex and want to have it without having to worry about having children they don't want. Maddow put it best: In 2012 women will have a choice between a party that wants to ban birth control, ban abortion and relegate it to back alleys and shadows, and burden low income women who could otherwise be freed from their animal cycles, and the party that doesn't.
You egg on wars that orphan people's children and plunge their neighborhoods into chaos. No amount of democracy or civil society will erase the memories of watching your parents die in a rain of bullets as American forces battle Islamist extremists. No amount of money will erase the fear that you will not see your child again because they might play too close to an IED and lose their limbs or their lives. You do this in the name of protecting the fatherland and in the name of the Sky God, bringing religion at the tip of a gun. You claim that Islam is a fascist religion that must spread and conquer those that do not agree with it, and you fight against this alleged evil by doing the exact same thing. You cheer on as our soldiers defecate on dead bodies, practically video taping propaganda movies for religious zealots. Then, in a disgusting turn that only you could perform, you turn the discussion into how liberals hate the military. We hate MISUSE of the military. If we're going to unleash the best fighting force on the earth and pit people into situations where they must kill or die, you better have a damned good reason for doing it, one that isn't reliant on belief in ancient desert religions and nonsense lies by corporate thugs.
You rail against social programs and obsess that somehow, somewhere, some poor person is getting help. Programs that have proven to be effective in helping people are in your eyes travesties against justice. You know this, and you think that by hiding it you might trojan horse your way into power. Remember Mitt Romney's recent gaffe that "He's concerned about Americans. He's not concerned about the very poor?" When conservatives criticized Mitt Romney, their admonishments could be translated into "You weren't supposed to say that out loud!" And no one, I mean no one, noticed that Romney essentially just said that the very poor were not Americans! You cry out class warfare, when you want to destroy the poor because they refuse to accept their place in life. The poor shouldn't be upset, because in your eyes, if they loved the sky god and spun around in circles screaming out nonsense to him then they wouldn't need government programs.
To all the moderate conservatives and people who are conservative on fiscal issues, like theotherside, etc. as well as to conservative refugees who can no longer stand what has become of your party, who will respond to this diary and tell me that you're really nice people who have not earned any of this condemnation I say this: you're probably worse in many ways and you are not nice. You sneer at "liberal projects" like Habitat for Humanity and deride us when we criticize Wallmart and Bain capital, saying somehow we just don't get their usefulness to society. How arrogant! Bain capital had ties to funding right wing death squads in Central America. It raided pension funds, used government bailouts and made a mockery of the tax code. They treated people like chattel, firing them right after the holidays with no forewarning, not even letting people know beforehand that they would be fired and allowing them time to adjust! We are right in criticizing sweat shops in Asia. Any moral person should know that hiring small children to work in dangerous conditions where they die in machinery is wrong, and you don't need mythical market forces to correct the situation, just demand a higher ethical standard and level the playing field for workers by allowing them to protect themselves with well funded entities equal to the morally bereft ones. Saying that they have a choice is fictitious hand waving! All "not understanding" an economic issue really means is that I have a higher moral standard and you simply do not. If you hold beliefs that negatively impact the quality of another human beings life and you translate that to the political realm, I don't care how nice you think yourself to be, you're not.
Yes this was a venting diary, but conservatives are getting on my nerves. I hate having to defend myself constantly. I hope Rick Santorum wins, so that we can finally put his movement to rest. I want you to watch as your political ideology, your ideas, and your worldview are tried in the court of public opinion and promptly go down in flames. I know it will only make you more resolved to waste our time with personhood amendments, union busting bills, xenophobic laws, birther conspiracies, antichrists, Islamophobia, and your eternal battle with the fictitious president Barack X. I don't want to hear any more ignorant comments like "the economy got better despite Obama!" as if the stimulus would have a negative effect on the economy that had to be made up for, and I don't want you to blather on about states rights as if its something more than an issue of power balance and efficient governance. To ally my wing nut neighbors and their conspiracies I say this: Put a sock in it.
