Mazie Hirono, the progressive Democratic Congresswoman in Hawai`i, has been gaining momentum in her race for the U.S. Senate.
- Today she was endorsed by America's Opportunity Fund.
- Earlier this week, the League of Conservation Voters announced that she'd registered a 97% pro-environment voting record during 2011.
- And last month, she was recognized as a "Breakout Star" by National Journal.
- Her most recent fundraising report show that she's doing well among online contributors and small donors.
- The fundraising success has allowed her to go on TV with her first commercial of the campaign called "Forward" and touting her willingness to help President Obama get his second-term agenda through the Senate.
- Meanwhile, her bipartisan bill to promote tourism - the VISIT USA Act - is moving through Congress. Here she is announcing the legislation with tourism official Mike McMcartney and famed chef Roy Yamaguchi:

Asian American Action Fund endorsement announcement:
“Representative Hirono’s deep record on issues relevant to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community made it an easy choice for this organization to endorse her for the U.S. Senate,” said AAA-Fund Deputy Executive Director Melissa Unemori Hampe. “In addition, we continue to be impressed with her enthusiasm and willingness to mentor others in the political process and her shared understanding that we need to continue developing a strong pipeline to bolster future generations of leaders.”
Hawai`i Government Employees Association endorsement announcement:
HGEA is on board with Mazie. Are you?
Of course, HGEA is not the only organization of Hawaii’s workers that is lending endorsements — and momentum — to Mazie’s campaign. We’re proud to join workers from the Hawaii AFL-CIO, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, Laborers Local 368, Seafarers, and the Hawaii Carpenters Union — as well as powerful progressive groups like EMILY’s List and the Council for a Livable World.
These organizations’ members see the same thing we see in Mazie: a strong voice for workers and the candidate who has the best chance of keeping Hawaii’s open Senate seat in Democratic hands.
Association of Professional Flight Attendants endorsement announcement:
“On every issue important to Flight Attendants and working families, Rep. Hirono is and has been in our corner,” said Laura Glading, president of the APFA, which represents the nearly 18,000 American Airlines Flight Attendants. “From protecting health and safety in the workplace to fighting for U.S. jobs, from health care reform to advocating for working families, Rep. Hirono has been outstanding.”
