Matt Taibbi at Rolling Stone nails it, the bankster oligarchy wants another war profiteering bonanza, and the country they are aiming at is Iran. Same formula as Iraq a decade ago, WMD's, fear mongering, and big defense contracts, along with the same hysterical Senators who lied us into the last war.

First, watch as corporatist cheerleader Erin Burnett brings on "lying us into war" expert NY Congressman Peter King to explain to us that Iraqi Iranian WMD's are an immediate threat to America RIGHT NOW!

Stop me if you've seen this movie before, like about ten years ago . . .

More below the fold

Now, read what Matt Taibbi says . . .

As a journalist, there’s a buzz you can detect once the normal restraints in your business have been loosened, a smell of fresh chum in the waters, urging us down the road to war. Many years removed from the Iraq disaster, that smell is back, this time with Iran.

You can just feel it: many of the same newspapers and TV stations we saw leading the charge in the Bush years have gone back to the attic and are dusting off their war pom-poms. CNN’s house blockhead, the Goldman-trained ex-finance professional Erin Burnett, came out with a doozie of a broadcast yesterday, a Rumsfeldian jeremiad against the Iranian threat would have fit beautifully in the Saddam’s-sending-drones-at-New-York halcyon days of late 2002. Here’s how the excellent Glenn Greenwald described Burnett’s rant:

It’s the sort of thing you would produce if you set out to create a mean-spirited parody of mindless, war-hungry, fear-mongering media stars, but you wouldn’t dare go this far because you’d want the parody to have a feel of realism to it, and this would be way too extreme to be believable. She really hauled it all out: WMDs! Terrorist sleeper cells in the U.S. controlled by Tehran! Iran’s long-range nuclear missiles reaching our homeland!!!! She almost made the anti-Muslim war-mongering fanatic she brought on to interview, Rep. Peter King, appear sober and reasonable by comparison.

This is on CNN. On Fox, we see a bipartisan group of Senators has endorsed the use of FORCE in Iran to stop the WMD's.

Of course, if there is a war to lie us into, there is a place in the world for Senators Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham, the wondertwins of fear mongering war hysteria.

Taibbi is right, I have seen this all before. Hell, these wingnuts are playing right out of the run-up to Iraq war playbook. We haven't even paid the full cost for Bush's last war yet, and already they are busy ginning up the next one with Iran!

War is a racket. These liars who talked us into Iraq should have zero credibility at all, and the corrupt, lap dog media that played their part to a t in the last idiotic war is revving up for the next one. Jobs? Nope, they got nothing. Tax cuts for the rich and more war, sure, no brainer! Why deal with any real problems? We can always distract you with terrorists and WMDs abroad and culture wars at home, the better for the banksters to eat you with.

But how about this, if you are trying to convince the Muslim world that America is in fact knocking over their countries one at a time to steal their oil, the best way to do it is to carve a road straight from Iraq to Iran through Afghanistan and Pakistan into China. If we do that, we can no longer say that "they hate us for our freedom", because they will actually hate us for our imperialistic military empire at that point, and rightfully so.

PEACE and love to all

End the wars, tax the rich, that's how we'll end the deficit.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
