Let's see....
We've got a distant middle-eastern oil-rich country....check!
….populated by dark skinned strangers who pray to the wrong God, and whose deaths by the hundreds of thousands we can gleefully cheer.....check!
We've got a hated Arabian despot railing against “the Great Satan” in an effort to shore up support among his own people...check!
We've got rumors of WMD.....check!
….brought to us unsourced and without verification by willing media servants seeking to curry favors among the political elite....check!
We have seekers for national office who never served in the armed forces and are therefore desperate to publicly demonstrate their manliness and presidential timber by galvanizing other people to go fight and die....check!
We have a government of and for the petroleum industry and other corporations that stand to reap hundreds of billions of dollars from military engagement.....check!
We have an economy critically dependent on the price of petroleum, which in turn is rising in parallel to the increased talk of war.....check!
We have a fake attack by small dingies on our impossibly large and well-defended naval ships as they make needlessly provocative voyages in the waters off the coast of the middle-eastern oil-rich country.....check!
We have an aggressive ally who appears willing to engaged in acts of public terrorism inside the middle-eastern oil-rich country, giving the hated Arab despot even greater need to rally his people ....check!
We have talking heads who never served in the armed forces questioning the patriotism and loyalty of anyone who suggests that war is a bad idea.....check!
We have a mainstream religion that is convinced that the second coming of Christ and God's Kingdom on earth can only be manifest through a cataclysmic war in the middle east.....check!
We have a distracted and under-educated populace, strung out by a steady diet of terrorism fears injected directly into their veins, and longing to be rescued by any sort of forceful action no matter how misguided....check!
We have young people mired in debt and poor job prospects, primed with youthful energy and love of country, eager for a way to jumpstart their futures, and only dimly cognizant of the full permanently maiming fury of modern weapons.....check!
We have an unfortunately weak president, fully bought-and-paid-for by the corporations that stand to reap hundreds of billions from military engagement, who needs to show large segments of the voting public that he does not bow down to foreign leaders nor is he a limp-wristed liberal, and that he can be an aggressive defender of the flag....check!
Hmmm....looks like it's a "go". All we are lacking now are some youthful innocents, preferably women - nuns, aid workers, medical students, or maybe hikers - held against their will by swarthy foreigners whose language we don't understand and whose motives are unknown
