Being the God-fearing Christian man of integrity he is, I'm sure Rick Santorum is above making dishonest public statements for the purpose of scoring cheap political points.
As we all know, Santorum called President Obama a "snob" for encouraging young people to attend college. Certainly this must mean that in the past Santorum never engaged in such snobbish behavior, right? Oh, wait....
Rick Santorum, February 27, 2003:
HBCUs [Historically Black Colleges and Universities] are an integral aspect of what has always been the American dream, an ideal that sees education and industry as the tools for succeeding in life and pursuing one's talents and interests. The livelihood of institutions such as Lincoln and Cheyney Universities is central to the preservation of this ideal and with it, our national heritage. Our Government has a responsibility to help sustain the legacy of these schools, and I am proud to support legislation to this end. Bills that bring 21st Century technology to tomorrow's graduates and funds intended to keep quality, affordable higher education available to all of our Nation's young students are part of the process. I encourage my Senate colleagues to join me in recognizing the importance of our country's HBCUs. I hope that together we can celebrate their history and ensure their future for the posterity of the Nation's higher education system.
Rick Santorum, September 8, 2004:
Education is a gateway to the future, and no child should be denied access to a quality education that provides them with the opportunity to go to college, find a job, and have a successful future.
Rick Santorum, January 25, 2006:
"Many students are faced with the very difficult challenge of balancing the pressures of school with those of pregnancy and parenting. Unfortunately, these challenges may result in a pregnant woman dropping out of college or having an abortion," said Senator Santorum. "If pregnant or parenting students have access to student services like on-campus child care and health care options, they are better enabled to both parent their children and finish their schooling."
