Recent polls show that a majority or near majority of people like Obama or have a favorable opinion of him. In a February 10-13, 2012 CNN poll, Obama had a 53% favorable vs. a 45% unfavorable rating. Compare that to Romney’s 34% favorable vs. 54% unfavorable ratings.
Another Jan 14-17th poll, found that Obama has a high likability rating with 66%/ 23% (like/dislike), while for Romney the numbers are a bit depressing: 44%/ 25% (like/dislike).
“I think likeability is really important, and I think we don’t know how important it is because it is a judgment people make automatically,” said Rutgers University political scientist Richard Lau.
Yes, it is. And what is not to like about Obama?
People see that he is a decent man with a nice family, and a no-drama temperament, according to polls and focus questions. We know the man can sing and he knows how to crack a good joke. He held a beer summit to get a police officer and a professor to clear up their differences. He works hard, advocates incessantly for new laws for the middle and working class, but keeps capitalists happy by keeping Wall Street up float.
But some people really dislike him. Or perhaps it is more than that?
Like that judge in Montana. When I read about it a few days ago, I was shocked that a Montana U.S. District Court Judge would send such a frivolous and mean-spirited email to his “friends”.
Judge Richard Cebull must be very grateful to Rush Limbaugh for monopolizing the news over the weekend, because it seems that his irresponsible and evil act fell under the radar and may not get the attention it should, although it is just as disgusting as the misogynistic arguments that Rush Limbaugh uttered in his radio show.
Cebull is being investigatedfor a racist email he forwarded to six friends from his work computer. The joke he forwarded, that I consider too sordid to repeat here, questioned the parentage of President Barack Obama, indicating his mother was so drunk at the time of conception, that Obama is fortunate his father was not a dog. The email implies that President Obama’s mother was – that adjective – that Rush Limbaugh used for Sandra Fluke.
Cebull, a white man, stated later in a quasi apology that he “is not a fan of the president”, but that he is not racist.
Not racist?
I have not seen such a revoltingly racist joke in quite a while. But this joke is about the president of the USA and his mother who is not even alive to defend herself. I don’t know how that is funny.
Cebull represents a good portion of the people that not only are “not fan of” the president but hate him without having a good reason for hating him. Judge Cebull needs to resign so he can join the Tea Party as another openly racist teabagger.
