Apparently he thinks it should be "illegal" to use them in a presidential race. He seems to think they're disingenuous because all the candidates are doing is "reading other peoples' words."
I wonder if he has any speech writers.
Does anyone truly believe that politicians write their own stuff?
Whether it's on a screen or a piece of paper, it's still most likely someone else's words.
So I'm not sure I get his point on this - we should choose a president based on public speaking ability? With no crib notes? Heck, even in public speaking classes you get to use index cards.
Sure, it would be great to have presidential candidates that are smart enough to know everything about everything, but that's a pretty tall order, and not a very realistic one.
Even with paper/teleprompters/whatever, a politician can't seem to speak eloquently on anything unless prepped beforehand; just look at the way they "um" and "aw" and stumble around on unexpected questions.
If we got rid of teleprompters, all we'd have is a bunch of people standing around staring at each other endlessly saying "You know... if I could... what you're asking is...I don't think that... I believe that... What I mean is...What does "is" mean?" :-)
