), facing increasing pressure from Wall Street to cut shareholders a dividend as its pile of cash has grown to nearly $100 billion, will announce how it plans to use the money during a 6 a.m. Monday conference call with analysts.
Just days after releasing its latest iPad, expected to ring up blockbuster sales, the Cupertino company said in a statement Sunday afternoon that Apple CEO Tim Cook and Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer will "announce the outcome of the company's discussions concerning its cash balance." Wall Street wants its cut. Wow, how surprising! Why not do something radically different that might involve compassion? How about shaving off just one billion of those dollars and building a state of the art health and well being center on the grounds of just one of its numerous Chinese sweat shops that make all the Apple goodies possible? Imagine swimming pools, Tai Chi rooms, classes in stress reduction, chill out rooms, ping pong tables, art classes, and social workers for job related stress. Just like a Smart YMCA that would compliment all of our Smart Phones. Ignore Wall Street Apple and do the right thing.
No poll on this issue. What do you think? What would you do that is socially responsible that would involve a paltry one billion dollar commitment that doesn't involve Wall Street getting its rich rewards?
