Earlier this evening shortly after 8 PM EST, I posted a diary of one sentence:
Video showing a pristine looking George Zimmerman in police custody.
The title originally was:
Turn on ED Now!!
I later amended it because I got several earnest comments/questions; one about ED [could be erectile dysfunction but I hope to not be engaged in a diary about that subject ever, but if absolutely necessary in the future for some odd reason, who knows?], and a few about the time frame/date.
The title was amended to:
Turn on Ed Schultz Now!! [Zimmerman Video]
The sentence was amended to:
Video showing a pristine looking George Zimmerman in police custody on the night of the shooting of Trayvon Martin.
and I added a sentence:
He is in handcuffs in the [garage?] area of the police station.
So there you have it. My diary was written with the intent to direct people to be able to see the video, which as I would later discover, was running on a loop on Ed's show
and apparently on Keith Olbermann's show on Current TV, and I guess ABC itself, which was the originator of the video.
Angie in WA State published her own diary 5 minutes later alerting us to the fact that KO on Current TV had it on, she also posted in my diary. Both were very short diaries to the effect that people might want to tune in and see what was happening in the video.
Then Horace Boothroyd III published a diary 16 minutes later with the video embedded.
I got a couple of really blatantly obtuse barbs in my comment section to the effect that I wasn't clear with my initial one liner diary. I went back and made the amendments as laid out above. Still more obtuseness, accusations of writing something I never wrote and failing to strike out or update in whatever manner the obtusoids thought was proper.
Like I said, my immediate intent was to alert readers to the video on Ed.
Video showing a pristine looking George Zimmerman in police custody.
Being a Captain Obvious sort of person, I assumed "pristine" would clue the reader to the time frame in question since Zimmerman has been hiding out for over a month and despite whatever injuries he
could have gotten, he'd assuredly be looking great by now. He ought to be pristine now.
I also didn't say that Zimmerman was "being taken into custody". I didn't say he was arrested.
I said:
Video showing a pristine looking George Zimmerman in police custody.
I later embedded the video because someone added it in a comment downthread. Then I added a formal update attributing who had procured the video, one Matt Guttman, ABC News Correspondent.
My one sentence to longer sentence to two whole sentences occurred within less than 15 minutes. I didn't strike anything. There was nothing to strike. Clarifications were made at the request of commenters and can be easily read in the comment section.
Someone accused me of being unethical, snottily.
Hey, I'm sorry your sensibilities were bruised because you missed all the back and forth of the process of ameliorating one sentence and adding another. I was in a hurry. I wasn't trying to beat out other diarists, I checked to see if there was a diary before I wrote mine and just before I hit "publish now". There were none. So I hit "publish now" so people could catch the video on Ed. Little did I know we'd get hung up on the now-ness of the video availability compared to the then-ness of the video's content.
