Marco Rubio, the GOP rising star and passionate Tea Party supporter, has realized along with everybody else in America that the GOP is alienating Hispanic voters. He has decided that something has to be done to reverse the trend of Latino voters turning away from the GOP party, and after all, elections are coming up in November and the GOP is already lagging behind according to recent polls.
This smarty pants GOP rookie has figured out that if he proposes his own version of the Dream Act, the “mini Dream Act”, the Latinos are going to flock to the Republican Party en masse.
Yeah, like Latinos cannot remember what party or presidential candidate proposed the “Self-deportation” solution.
Latinos are not easily fooled and can see through the machinations of the right. They know very well who voted down a perfectly well crafted law that would have allowed Latinos who were brought by their parents to the United States as children to become legal citizens in a country they already consider their own because it is here that they grew up.
Like the original Dream Act, Marco Rubio’s lite edition of the law, would make a college or military career a prerequisite towards legal citizenship, but all his law would offer is a temporary legal visa.
Is that enough to get Latinos jumping up and down in excitement to go and vote for Romney in November? Methinks not. But let them try. It will be fun to watch.
