Two things completely unrelated happened on the trip. Probably the biggest deal was we left the Sanford area, where we live, right around the time of the horrible shooting of Trayvon Martin and we were pretty uninformed about what was going on that first week because we were without a TV or computer out on Long Island.
On the trip back to Florida, we took route I 95 all the way from NY to Central Florida, it took 18 hours of driving. Needless to say we stopped in a lot of public rest stops and used the bathrooms.
Part two.....I walked into a rest area on the New Jersey Turnpike to use the bathroom and I must say, aside from the fact that I haven't seen graffiti on the doors and walls of a public restroom in a long time, it was written in "Sharpie" "Kill the rich" an arrow pointing to a second response said " They pay your welfare checks you asshole" Actually it was the "c" word, but I chose not to write it.
I looked at that for a long time wishing I had a "sharpie" to write something and I couldn't think of a thing to say. I still can't.
I have been feeling a certain anger for the 1% lately myself. Not so much because they have this money, it's more about trust fund babies and how they indulge themselves while others are just struggling to get through. Building bigger homes, more homes, driving crazy expensive cars, you know what I mean?
So that was my trip back, picking up news about the neighborhood watch crazy ass killer that used the "Stand your ground" law over here to murder a perfectly innocent high school kid and thinking about why he wasn't in jail waiting for arraignment and rich people that can't stop spending money when the rest of us are going down the tubes.
Sad isn't it?
