The only close race of import tonight was the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Nebraska.
Ben Nelson decided not to run for re-election, Bob Kerrey handily won the Democratic primary, and a tea party candidate with little statewide name recognition has won the GOP primary.
According to TPM, Deb Fischer, one of 49 state senators, has defeated two statewide-elected Republicans tonight.
More, below.
Fischer was way behind state Attorney General Jon Bruning until she was endorsed by Sarah Palin. That changed the next poll dramatically, and the real poll tonight.
Bruning was the establishment candidate, though suitably far-right on everything, and the other statewide-elected, state Treasurer Don Stenburg, had the support of the Club for Growth and Jim DeMint.
The current tallies are Fischer with 41 percent, Bruning with 36 percent, and Stenburg with 19 percent.
GOP primary voters have again picked the weakest, most-far-right, and least-well-known general election candidate for an important Senate race.
Hopefully that will help the Dems hold a seat that was written off months ago.
