Clearly, the Universe liked Noddy's diary last nite and wanted another water-related Top Comments. Follow me below the dingledoodlesquiggliedKosagnocchidividerthingie fold after a word from our sponsor...
Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
NOTE: Bowing to that newfangled DK4 stuff :-), you also may send nominations to the Top Comments group email. If you don't see a nomination you made to there in the diary, please pipe up - it means we're still trying to remember not to forget to check!
Woke up this morning to K1 quietly knocking on our door. "There's no hot water in the shower." A quick check of the faucet (yup, no hot water here either), stove (gas still on? check.) and basement (note puddles of water) and we had a reason - dead hot water heater.
We had two bits of luck early on: I'd been going through an old file cabinet last week and found the water heater purchase info misfiled, so it was on the table, AND we were only 8 years into a 12 year warranty. Yay us. We called Sears, and somewhere between 11:30 and 11:45am we ordered our new water heater. Because it was before noon, installation was guaranteed for today.
At 3pm, Mr. Brillig called the installation department because we'd not heard from them. He was told we'd been assigned to an installer, who was running behind, so expect a call within 60-90 minutes. Fine, I'd been home all day so I'd be near the landline (well, Vonage-line) when they called, what's another hour.
At 6pm, your Mild and Meek Humble Diarist called the Installation Department to find out where the fuc...erm, where our installer was. After 10 intolerable minutes on hold, a Customer Experience Agent let me know that because today was the day after a holiday, the same-day delivery guarantee was not valid. He had no record of us being assigned an installer and said we must have misunderstood.
::Checks website, sees no mention of day-after exclusions, even in the fine print I can once again read with my shiny new old-people glasses::
To make a long story short and keep my blood pressure from rising again, a series of calls occupied my afternoon:
Sales (to verify who sold me the water heater and told me it was guaranteed today. FWIW I got her name but was told to cut her some slack since she was relatively new)
followed by Sales Escalation/Special Handling (who said that in fact day-after-holidays ARE guaranteed, that the newbie sales agent was correct, and that Installation didn't know what they were talking about)
which went back to Installation, where I was told the Installer would call tonite or first thing tomorrow morning to set up a time. Notice this is for TOMORROW.
and finally ended up with Special Handling Installation, where a nice man said that yes, the original Installation guy had misspoken and yes, he needed to be retrained.
Oh, along the way a tweet might have found its way from my account to @SearsCares and might have gotten me a direct message offering to help. Mr. Brillig points out that a slight change in capitalization gives us @SearScares, which made us laugh as I stacked dirty dishes next to the sink.
So... I see you all moving away from me. I promise I used deodorant and am upwind. Stay within commenting distance and tell me your consumer horror stories. I'll boil water for tea ::goes to check proper temperature::
As I write it's 9pm and we have not heard from the plumber doing tomorrow's install, so I shall be tethered to Casa Brillig again tomorrow. However, as I have been reminded, it could be worse. This could have happened next week while we're at NN12. And so I shall end up with a cleaner house and, eventually, hot water to do dishes and take a shower!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything
without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do
not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

So Romney is looking for a boring white guy? Rob Portman, of course. Penman shares his thoughts.
From expatjourno:
nominating splintersawry for succinctly stating a key difference between Bush and Obama.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
People are people, unless they're not, as blue aardvark comments in Jed Lewison's Mitt Romney gives sneak preview of The Bain Presidency.
