What is 675 Billion? The amount of money the Obama Administration would have spent in the 2010 and 2011 budgets if it had continued to increase outlays at the speed the Bush Administration did from FY-2002 to FY2008 (6.49% a year).
How about this: Worst case scenario, how much did the outlays increase from FY-2008, if we hand FY-2009 to Obama like the Republicans want? Well, they've increased 20.8%, then. Bad, right? Well, even without that, Bush increased spending 22.27%. With it, Bush raised spending by 42.30% in his second term, after having raised it 32.7% from Clinton's outlays. Bush 41, at 23.23% didn't do any better, and Reagan didn't do any better at 20.86% for his second term, and 39.53% for his first.
That's right, even with FY-2009 hung around his neck, Obama does better than any Republican President. Without it, Obama has only increased Federal Spending since that budget year by 2.43%. If he sticks to the 2012 and 2013 plans, his average yearly increase will only come up to 1.89%. Even now, his increases have only come up to 1.15%
With numbers like these, Republicans have no cause to celebrate themselves as fiscal conservatives.
