This is my first diary at Kos: If I do it incorrectly – plz refrain from bringing out the machine guns like they do at www.redstate.com
Speaking RedState, have you ever visited that hate-filled site? If not — treat yourself to an amazing, eye-opening experience of just how dastardly the far-right can be.
Most of the thin-skinned commenters and moderators at redstate.com cannot (or will not) take constructive criticism at all. If you visit the site – notice the bunker mentality. In all my years I have never witnessed such purposeful “insulation” from any kind of thinking outside of their lock-step mentality. In order to keep their “cocoon” sealed from encroaching ideas – the moderators have resorted to publicly banning posters who dare question authority (or even espouse difference of opinion). Apparently this behavior has been going on for many years. I suppose, in some way, it may be a badge of honor to be on their banned list. It means you hit too close to home with a comment.
The site paranoia hangs thick in the air. If you are a “proven” or old-time poster at RedState — you are allowed to engage in hateful and violent languaging. If not, you will be ceremoniously attacked from all sides by the regulars. The “regulars” always attempt to vet new users asap. They immediately try to pin down a new user they don’t recognize. They do this for (a) twisted fun, (b) to root out mobys, trolls, etc. and finally (c) to boost their own sick egos. Not only do the moderators encourage this activity — they engage in it themselves. You simply have to see it to believe it.
Of course registered users must sign up 24-hours before making a post (diary or comment) similar to Kos. It’s better than Reality TV at times. I think the best popcorn moments are when I write a comment that obviously got someone to think in different way and they, in turn, start arguing (vociferously) and name-calling each other. God, they turn on their own like barracudas. It is hilarious and sad all at the same time. Sometimes I wonder how many of their ultra-closed minds are even malleable at this point, though.
Have a couple of glasses of wine and take a look.
Cheers
