Politics makes strange bedfellows. Perhaps there are none stranger than former KKK grand wizard David Duke endorsing Charles Barron for Congress. See the video after the jump.
I have no idea how to imbed a video, so I am just going to post the link. http://www.youtube.com/...
Brooklyn has an opportunity to send an intelligent and effective legislator to Congress. Passing over Hakeem Jefferies in favor of David Duke's preferred candidate would be a mistake for this district that will be hard to overcome.
This is a tremendous opportunity to send to Congress a politician that actually has the potential to produce results for a district that has traditionally been under-served. Charles Barron does not see it as his job to go to Washington and legislate. He has said that his job is to go to Washington and throw bombs. His record as a legislator has supported this. In between praising Khadaffi and Mugabe, Barron has not introduced a single piece of legislation.
Jefferies, on the other hand, is cut from an entirely different cloth. He is a respected legislator who has tirelessly fought on the right side of issues important to progressives. Legislation he drafted, including regarding stop and frisk, has actually passed. His cross-over appeal, both in terms of racial politics and party politics, has been compared to President Obama and Newark Mayor Cory Booker.
In sum, the people of Brooklyn should vote for the future and not because of the past. The choice here is clear. Hakeem Jefferies must be the people's choice.
