I don't want to go to deeply into the circumstances, as they are very delicate. My sister divorced her husband about six years ago. Her ex, just this Monday, lied to the family court telling them that he could no longer pay child support because he was paying for COBRA to cover my niece, who just entered her third trimester. The next day, her midwife told her that her insurance was not going through. My sister followed up, and found that the insurance had lapsed. On April 30.
We need advice.
In order to get on my sister's insurance my niece would have had to have transferred within 30 days. That period has obviously lapsed.
I have explored the possibility of her getting into a Federal pool for people with pre-existing conditions, but have found that the deductible to be rather high.
My niece has just gotten a job at Chipotle, where they have promised her she'll be covered by insurance from day one, but we worry that if anything goes wrong and she either can't keep the job or that the coverage is inadequate.
My niece lives in Virginia. We'd appreciate any advice that the Kososphere can provide.
