Admittedly I am a bit of a news junkie and my politics lean left, but I'm in a knowledge desert. You see, I live with my daughter and I'm disabled and unable to work. We live in a low income neighborhood where nobody seems to have any kind of opinion about politics. They have no clue what the Affordable Care Act is, have no clue what the Tea Party is or that they're being condemned to lives of poverty and possible forced religious nonsense.
I've tried. Oh have I tried to get through to people to start paying attention to the world around them, but it's like talking to turnips. They don't know our world is perilously close to global war or global atmospheric catastrophe. They simply don't care and don't vote. Instead they've been beaten down so long they don't believe they have any voice whatever, but when people give up, refuse to educate themselves instead using technology to do nothing but yack to friends and play games I'm left feeling that whatever misery comes their way is well deserved.
What's a grandpa to do? It's talking to turnips.
