Are the crappy, wrong, headlines today in the Washington Post online news site this morning purposely slanted to make President Obama look like he is weak and failing? Are they calculated to put Democrats and the White House on the defensive at the outset and make it look as if this week is a win or lose proposition that will determine everything? What do you think?
Here are phrases from the headlines I saw. Each is from a separate article or column referring and to the president, and one to liberals. All from this morning's headlines which are quoted in full below:
A tough term for Obama
A long year for the president
Make or break week
prepare for loss
rulings to close a tough term
troubled trajectory of Obama’s....
a consequential week for Obama
Will we miss Obamacare if it dies?
Can supporters ....find their voices after a loss?
Obama, still unprepared and ego-driven
Obama administration’s original sin
Blame Obama for the Arab Spring mess?
Outrageous, right?
This morning these are some of the headlines (diarist adds emphasis):
BREAKING NEWS
Supreme Court reverses Montana ruling on campaign spending
Court rulings will close a tough term for Obama
Robert Barnes: Supreme Court justices are expected to hand down long-awaited rulings on immigration and health care this week, but it’s already been a long year for the president before the court.
Fix: Obama’s make-or-break week
Sargent: Liberals prepare for loss
White House
For Obama, Supreme Court health-care, immigration rulings to close a tough term
The troubled trajectory of Obama’s health-care law
Health-care ruling will cap a consequential week for Obama
E.J. Dionne Jr*.:
Will we miss Obamacare if it dies?
Can supporters of health-care reform find their voices after a loss?
And then there are these, almost a daily fixture with only the names changed:
Rogers: Obama, still unprepared and ego-driven
Eskew: The Obama administration’s original sin
Diehl: Blame Obama for the Arab Spring mess?
They changed some headlines later and included one or two positive ones based on the SCOTUS' AZ ruling. Plus one somewhat negative in tone, until you get to the article and see actual headline on betrayal
(in italics below).
And added these:
Marc A. Thiessen Notre Dame v. Obama:
Obama is paying for betraying progressive Catholics
Obama: Outsourcing is Romney’s economic vision
A big win for the White House Eugene Robinson
The one surprising headline:
Issa: White House not in on gun operation
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) says nothing so far suggests the West Wing was involved in withholding information related to inquiry into “Fast and Furious.”
*One of my favorite columnists, who may not have chosen the headline.
