I was perusing my inbox this morning and found an email entitled “Energy = Jobs” from my congressman, Scott Rigell, announcing how busy he is working for Virginians and the American People. He was so proud of his amendment offered on HR 4480 which in essence re-opens Lease Sale 220 off the coast of Virginia for oil and gas development which the Obama administration had shut down indefinitely. Follow me below for my response...
This really got my dander up, so as a concerned citizen of Virginia, with little or no representation whatever, I composed the following email to Scott Rigell:
"Energy = Jobs" !?!
Well congratulations Scott, you have handed your rich donors and friends (Koch Brothers) another payday. I hope you don't hurt yourself patting your own back. My memory of the Gulf Oil Spill by BP is still fresh, oh and it is the gift that keeps on giving to this day as demonstrated by shrimp with no eyes (among a host of other anomalies). Now you want to expose the coast of Virginia to the same devastation. Even South Carolina has rejected coastal drilling, that says something about your intelligence level.
And there you are linking jobs to dirty, filthy oil drilling. Here's a fact, wind power cannot cause total coastal destruction in the event of corporations cutting corners and ignoring regulations. Most people understand that you are not interested in getting Americans back to work, if so, we would have a jobs bill and people would be working, right now, today, fixing roads and bridges. But noooo, you have signed on to make this a "one term" president. Good luck with that! You are only helping Obama's re-election with this latest stunt. And good luck with your bid for re-election and convincing all the folks in Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads that it's okay to put their shoreline at risk for more profits for oil companies.
Sincerely.
There was a small mention of wind power, but the crux of the amendment was to allow oil companies unlimited access to the Virginia coastline for profits.
There was also this nugget on his website, “Overwhelmingly, and on a bi-partisan basis, Virginia local, state and federal elected officials have supported the development of energy resources off of Virginia’s coast. … Americans need energy security. Virginians need jobs. Offshore development offers both.”
What a crock!! I live on the coast of Virginia, I have not met one person or an “elected official” who supports off shore drilling.
Scott Rigell is another teabagger that must go! Vote for the Democrat, Paul Hirschbiel (VA 02).
GOTV!!
