Results: Colorado | New York | Oklahoma | South Carolina | Utah
4:17 PM PT: Looks like the first trickle of votes is showing up in SC-07.
4:26 PM PT: An unexpected development:
A low-key primary election day in Colorado took on an even more muted tone Tuesday: Destructive wildfires are dominating the public's attention, and candidates were loath to campaign amid the smoke and flames.
4:27 PM PT: Tonight's poll closing times (all times Eastern):
SC: 7 PM
OK: 8 PM
NY: 9 PM
CO: 9 PM
UT: 10 PM
4:51 PM PT: All of a sudden we're up to 14% reporting and Gloria Tinubu is crushing Preston Brittain in SC-07 (D), 70-30. On the (R) side, Tom Rice is up 57-43 over Andre Bauer.
5:01 PM PT: Polls are now closed in Oklahoma.
5:03 PM PT: Oof, it's looking bad for Brittain. Now up to 22% counted and it's 74-26 Tinubu. Brittain got 38% in round one....
5:12 PM PT (Steve Singiser): In Oklahoma, the marquee race, without question, is in OK-02, where both parties are looking for nominees in an open seat being vacated by Dan Boren, arguably the most conservative member of the Democratic delegation in the House. With three candidates on the Democratic side, and six on the GOP side, the big challenge for the leading candidates tonight will be trying to avoid a runoff.
5:16 PM PT (Steve Singiser): The AP has called neither of the runoffs in SC-07, but the trajectory of both races seems pretty clear. On the Democratic side, Gloria Tinubu is flat-out destroying Preston Brittain. With a third of the vote in, the margin is now 75-25. Meanwhile, it seems like since the first votes came in, Tom Rice's lead over former Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has held steady. It currently stands at 58-42.
5:19 PM PT (Steve Singiser): We have our first (very preliminary) numbers in Oklahoma, though nothing has materialized yet in the 2nd district. Republican incumbents Frank Lucas and Tom Cole are rolling (both are north of 85 percent), while the battles to be the Democratic sacrificial lambs in both districts are still quite close.
5:22 PM PT (Steve Singiser): ...And no sooner do I hit "update" than we get our first nums out of OK-02. And, if this were to hold (hint: it likely won't), we would indeed get two runoffs. On the GOP side, plumbing company owner Markwayne Mullin, the best funded of all the horses in the field, has 39 percent, leading Tishomingo City Attorney Dustin Rowe (28 percent). On the Democratic side, former US Attorney Rob Wallace holds a narrow lead over seed company owner Wayne Herriman (46-41), with Some Dude Earl Everett taking a crucial 13 percent.
5:31 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Granted, we are only talking about 250 votes or so, but oh man...if this holds: in OK-01, incumbent Republican John Sullivan is trailing Jim Bridenstine (57-43). This wouldn't even be a decent sample size for a district poll, though, so do not write the political eulogy for Sullivan just yet. He did have some late PAC buys on his behalf, though, so maybe his benefactors saw this coming a little bit.
5:39 PM PT (Steve Singiser): AP won't call it yet, but the outcomes in SC-07, long baked-in, now look inevitable. With over 60 percent reporting on both sides, Democrat Gloria Tinubu (72 percent) and Republican Tom Rice (58 percent) look more or less unassailable at this point. One has to wonder if Brittain was even on the campaign trail while the runoff was in limbo. After all, he got 38 percent in the original primary, and is currently at just 28 percent. Unless the remaining precincts are his home base, it is hard to see him repeating his primary performance.
5:41 PM PT (Steve Singiser): We are only at a couple of percent reporting in OK-02, but there is one trend that is starting to develop. It looks like Markwayne Mullin has a clear lead over the field, but it also looks like a genuine three-way coin flip is developing for the second spot. And that is relevant, because Mullin is nowhere near the majority he needs to secure the nomination without a runoff.
On the Democratic side, meanwhile, the margins have changed little. Rob Wallace leads Wayne Herriman 46-40.
5:49 PM PT (Steve Singiser): From the department of "every vote counts": we are very early into the proceedings in OK-01, but incumbent Republican Rep. John Sullivan currently trails opponent Jim Bridenstine by...5 votes. Out of about 2600 cast.
5:52 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Heh. Now we are up to 3000 votes tallied in OK-01. And John Sullivan has surged. He now trails by just...2 votes.
5:58 PM PT (Steve Singiser): With 90 percent reporting, and a 73-27 lead in the vote tallies, the Associated Press took a gigantic leap of faith and projected Gloria Tinubu as the winner in the Democratic runoff in SC-07.
6:03 PM PT: Polls are now closed in New York and Colorado.
6:05 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Polls have just closed in New York, as well as Colorado. Also, South Carolina is now officially done—the AP has called the GOP runoff for Tom Rice.
6:06 PM PT: The liveblog continues here.
