To play Devil's Advocate, apparently, here is my opinion.
So, many people seem to be so "Yay!" about the government's ability to now force us to buy a particular service/product.
It's such a great idea that, rather than give bailouts, the government should from now on simply force us to buy the products of whatever company is ailing. That will prop up sales.
Never mind that way too many people can barely afford the cost of living already, or are losing their homes and their jobs and everything else. The answer, obviously, is to enact legislation that forces people to give up even more money, though where it's going to come from is anyone's guess.
And no, I don't see this as a healthcare issue; I see it as an assault on the self-reliance of people and the ability to make their own decisions, for better or worse.
The government, whether federal, state, or local, is drowning in debt (whole towns going bankrupt! I mean, seriously, how does that happen?), and the only "fix" seems to be "Let's just squeeze more money out of the people".
Cheer all you want, but we all just became a little less free today.
