Sorry for the quick hit diary, but I wanted to share this with those who may have missed Mitt's NAACP speech this morning. Here's the end of the speech which was my favorite part:
ROMNEY: When I was growing up, all of our help was colored. Our nannies, the kitchen help, the maids, my dad's manservant, even the gardeners were colored in those days! Can you believe that! Colored gardeners! And I have to say, you people -- you people -- know how to garden! At least as good -- no, better! -- than the Mexicans! About the only help that wasn't colored were our drivers. My dad didn't believe in colored drivers. But one important promise I wanted to make today... I will be the jobs president for you people! Elect me, and I will hire all colored staff at all of my -- ten, eleven... Um, Eric, how many homes do I own? Eleven, twelve, whatever... If you elect me, I will fire all the Mexicans -- I love firing people -- and I will put your people on the staffs of all of our homes! Every one of them! Now, don't tell the Mexicans this, but the truth is, I'm not going to get their votes anyway, what with my calls for electric fences and deporting all of them. So I WILL BE the employment president for you colored people! Elect me and I will be hiring hundreds of you to staff my homes all across the country and I will even see if we can get some of you to work at the homes we have in Europe, the Caymans and the rest of the places I can't remember right now! I AM the jobs president for the colored! Thank you, God bless you and God bless the United States of America!
