Romney went on FoxNews today to try to stem Republican calls that he release his tax returns. He doubled down on his stonewalling, and in doing so, seemed to admit there's something in them that Republicans should not want disclosed (because it could hurt Romney)
ROMNEY: The Obama people keep on wanting more and more and more. More things to pick through, more things for their opposition research to try make a mountain out of and to distort and to be dishonest about. We’re going to put out two years of tax returns.
Dumb, dumb candidate.
If there's nothing bad in there, he should not be afraid. Clearly trying to hide something.
Joe Scarborough has speculated that Romney did not pay any taxes at all one or more years based on so many deductions and loopholes. Whatever it is, Romney knows he must hide it.
Romney did a cost/benefit anaylsis and determined that whatever was in those returns could kill his candidacy. He will stonewall forever.
Our job is to help speculate about what he is hiding.
I'll bring the Obama campaign response to this when I see it.
Update I: This must be the Romney campaign plan to shift the focus from Bain. The Condi Rice for VP boomlet did not catch on, so let's get the media speculating on what Mitt's trying to hide by not releasing the tax returns. Mitt's strategy may work for a few days. Now we are talking about his tax returns and what he's trying to hide. :-)
