I support gay marriage. But when politicians tried to use the government to ban a business because of its personal religious convictions they stepped over the line. That's their right, just as it's my right not to visit them.
The Chick-Fil-A battle is a poorly chosen one, taken at the wrong time, with the wrong enemy. It is one that is destined to win no support for the attackers, and to only martyrize the attacked.
As a result we've pissed off all the bigots, the silent majority, that rule america. We've been glad to run around and try to pull of gay marriage victories under their noses, but if we piss in their backyard, if we intentionally piss them off we are pushing back gay rights. They will come out and fight for things they were previously apathetic about.
My Local Chick-Fil-A sold out all their food at 1 Pm. And had major lines in 105 Fahrenheit Weather causing traffic backups that were city wide.
Essentially those attacking Chick Fil A made a lot more enemies than the usually would have overnight, without gaining a single thing from it.
If Chick-Fil-A were an Islamic restaurant supporting islamic laws and ideas I'm sure the opinions would be all those people attacking them are the real bigots, and so forth. As it has been demonstrated in the past with islamic institutions that have been banned by the government in states or have been attempted to be banned.
The fact is no matter how you feel about Cathy and Chick-Fil-A, in ethical, moral, and in human terms, the fact of the matter is, when the government of these cities banned them due to their religious convictions, or what organizations they decide to financially support, they broke the law.
Beyond that they sought to create a fight that did not need to be fought at this moment, and will only cause backlash and hurt election battles for Democrats in these and other Battleground states.
This was not a battle that could be won, It's not a battle that we will win. It was a poor choice that is only benefitting bigots. Attacking Chick-Fil-A did not damage their revenue at all, in fact it most likely boosted it.
And by speaking out so strongly against it and trying to infringe on their freedom to operate, we have indirectly provided funding to anti-gay laws via the backlash that has been created.
This was not a wise thing to do.
