I Got The News Today (IGTNT) , which is among the oldest continuous series on Daily Kos, provides members of this community a venue to pay their respects to those who have died as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The IGTNT title is a reminder that nearly every day the family of an active duty service member receives the terrible news that their beloved has died.

Master Sgt Gregory R. Trent, 38, Norton, Massachusetts
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent, 38, of Norton, Mass., died Aug. 8 in Bethesda, Md., from wounds suffered July 31 in Baktabad, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire.
Trent was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C. ~ DoD News Release
Gregory Trent was a 1992 graduate of Norton High School and a 1995 graduate of Fisher College in North Attleboro.
Master Sgt Trent enlisted in the Army in 1998 as an artilleryman and volunteered for Special Forces in 2006.
MSGT Trent was a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and this was his 4th deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medals (2), Army Achievement Medals (3), Good Conduct Medals (4), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medals (3), Iraq Campaign Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professonal Development Ribbons (4), Army Service Ribbon (5), Overseas Service ribbons, NATO Medal, Parachutist Badge, Military Freefall Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Special Forces Tab.
Master Sgt Gregory R. Trent is survived by his wife, a daughter, his parents and a brother.
No funeral services have been announced.
