So I've talked to some of my conservative contacts about the pick of Paul Ryan. I asked them how it felt to have an Objectivist as a VP. They vehemently tell me that the vast majority of conservatives have no idea who Ayn Rand. There's a minority of rabid Objectivists, while the other small minority of conservatives think she's stupid. They swear up and down Ayn Rand has had a minimal impact on the conservative movement. I'm willing to think so, except for that fact much of their viewpoint agrees with hers.
Let's set aside the fact that they're standing idly by while an Objectivist unleashes the Ayn Rand budget.
First off all the conservatives I've talked to are more rabidly anti-Obama rather than super in love with Romney. This conservative contact used to like Romney, but something happened in the last year that made Rmoney a bit less attractive, although I don't know what it is. Rmoney is everything a conservative could want. I was more interested in how Ryan appears to the GOP.
Apparently, Ryan is really about getting a small minority of Objectivists, who are quite wealthy, to donate to the Romney campaign. Ryan doesn't actually excite the base as much as Republican pundits would like to let on. It's all about getting a rich financial elite to open up their coffers.
I guess the TARP bailout and the auto bailouts can simply be ignored by the Objectivists, but I don't believe that Ryan is simply a fundraising tool for a small, wealthy elite to donate. It doesn't make sense. Romney can glean money from Goldman Sachs and all the other financial institutions, and is already swimming in cash. Why pick a VP as a fund raising effort?
I'm just throwing this out there as I like to listen to right wingers. Any thoughts?
