The picture Linda Lingle wanted to make sure Hawaii sees.
Republican Senate candidates'
panic over the new Romney-Ryan ticket is taking a couple of hilarious turns. First, there's
running away, Scott Brown's preferred reaction to the Romney-Ryan ticket.
But this is even better. Hawaii's Republican candidate, Linda Lingle, is campaigning by using photos of herself with that other guy. The one Romney and Ryan are running against.
Former Gov. Linda Lingle has in recent weeks been touting a bipartisan record, but Democrats attacked the campaign strategy Friday, noting both her questioning of whether the country would be safe with Obama in the White House and also her decision to skip a 2008 National Governors Association meeting with the then president-elect. Lingle responded by posting the photo of herself and Obama at a 2009 White House dinner for governors. Lingle is running against Democratic Rep. Mazie Hirono for the seat of retiring Sen. Daniel Akaka (D).
A bit of a change from 2008, when at an event in Nevada, "Lingle told 60 people in Henderson that she did not know Obama and that he had not called her even though he was from Hawaii. She also questioned Obama's abilities, telling the crowd 'it's the protection of your families that's at stake.'" But apparently, he's not too dangerous to appear in photos with, even to splash those photos out on the internets.
As a moment of bonus crazy from Lingle, she's called for 18 debates between now and Nov. 6. That's a debate and a half every week for the next 12 weeks. Democrat Mazie Hirono dismissed the idea with appropriate skepticism.
"From the Republican who refused to debate her primary opponent even once, and even refused to show up at the bi-partisan Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association Debate this summer -- this is an extraordinary acknowledgment from Linda Lingle that the people of Hawaii deserve to finally hear her debate. It's hard to imagine Republican Linda Lingle really wants 18 opportunities to defend the Romney-Ryan plan to end Medicare as we know it, relive her abysmal record on Furlough Fridays, and explain why it would be good for Hawaii if she helps the national Republican Party take control of the U.S. Senate."
Maybe Hirono
should take her up on the 18 debate offer, just to make her go on the record about whether she supports one of the central tenets of the Romney-Ryan ticket. That could be really fun. Or a little insane.
