I asked a question - anonymously - at my company's quarterly meeting today:
"Since it is clear that the worldwide economic crisis was caused by the carelessness of the mega-banks, is our company going to move its banking from big banks to smaller local banks or credit unions, to the extent that we can?"
Everybody laughed at the question.
And the CEO, who I generally respect, essentially said, "This is really a crock of a question but I will pretend to answer it respectfully. We need banks, we will bank in the manner that will bring the most value to our shareholders, and we are not interested in making a political statement."
OK, he did not say the first thing.
I'm in shock. I wish I could leave the company, but it is a good company, it is a good job, I have flexible hours, I work from home, and I have health insurance for myself, my husband, and three of my mostly-grown children.
One more reason, not that I need one, to fight for Obama and Democrats this fall, so I can quit my job in 2014 and everybody can still be covered.
