Hank.
Hank, Hank, Hank, Hank, Hank.
Honestly, I have always liked you but I have never listened to most of your music: I'm just not a country guy. I think you have created your own sound and style and it's classic. And I respect it.
I do love what you did with Jerry's 'Amos Moses'. I play that song as a solo acoustic thing and have arranged it much as you have.
But, with all due respect, I have to tell you that you clearly have no idea how unbelievably stupid you sound spewing that stuff we here on 'the Left' refer to as 'birtherism": the irrational belief that somehow Barack Obama is not a genuine American and that he was 'born in Kenya'.
It's appalling.
I feel the need to break this down for you: I doubt you'd listen to this, but wtf?
You didn't just go birther on us, buddy, you had a full-on outburst of Stupid.
(Were you drunk?)
The son of Hank Williams made his remarks during a recent performance at the Iowa State Fair. As the crowd chanted “USA! USA!”, Williams Jr grabbed the microphone, Metromix Des Moines reported, declaring: “We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the US and we hate him!” The comments were reportedly met with “loud and enthusiastic” cheers.
You utter ONE sentence that is the epitome of the old phrase "10 pounds of stupid in a five pound bag".
Never mind the cheering crowd: they didn't lose their sweet gig with ABC for spewing such this same offensive crap.
One would think that a person as able to accomplish what you've accomplished would, you know...learn from such an experience.
First: If you want to look like a complete moron, but not go full-on birther, go on - in public - about Obama being a Muslim. Despite the ridiculousness of such a belief, even if it were true, so fucking what? It's America, ain't it? Freedom of Religion and all that.
I'm told some people back in the day thought it was terrible that JFK was Catholic.
Gasp.
Obama isn't a Muslim. We really would have known by now.
Next: Obama hates farming? I hadn't heard this one so I had to do a little reading.
Apparently there have been some real political shnenigans with regards to a farm bill and I found this nifty video from CBS news apparently showing Obama puttting the blame on that Ryan felliow.
August 13, 2012 10:40 AM
In remarks in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Monday, President Obama singled out vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan as a leader in Congress blocking the farm bill from becoming law.
there's a lot on the InterTubes about this and Obama (A) isn't to blame, at least not solely and (B) it's a helluva stretch to twist that into "Obama hates farmers".
Ergo, it sounds stupid.
Third: Obama hates the military? How do you figure that one?
Defense spending 'cuts'?
Keeping them in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Sending them to terminate bin Laden?
How does Obama hate the military?
I am not Obama's most raptured fan and I have complaints but I haven't seen ANYTHING that says to me he "hates" the military.
Hate is an ugly word, Hank. I have a fairly harsh tongue but I reserve "hate" for things like "Brussels sprouts" or "disco" or 'leisure suits". I don't 'hate' on people.
Lastly,,, [deep sigh]... Obama hates America?
I don't care why you think something so stupid: I'm afraid the answer would make me dumber.
In America we like to talk about freedom of speech and you certainly have it, and so do I.
And here it goes: I think that moronic tirade makes you sound like a 3rd rate wingnut radio loudmouth. (That's not a compliment.)
And as far as you 'hating' Obama, you might as well 'hate' me - I'll be voting for him.
Cancelling your vote for that hood ornament.
If you're offended by that, welcome to the party: you're pretty offensive yourself.
