You know, as a musician, I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for Dave Mustaine. The guy can play some of the most technically difficult licks on a guitar and sing at the same time. That's legit. That's something I can't even come close to. I could post a youtube video of some of the guys' live performances, but I'm not going to.
...because I've lost all respect for the guy. And its a damn shame.
Its a shame because Dave Mustaine was the voice of my youth. Megadeth and Metalica and Ministry to name a few. Hank Williams Jr. has always been an asshole- and would be nowhere if it hadn't been for his dad. I got very little respect for nepotism. But Mustaine? The guy can shred with the best of them.
I'm both embarrassed and ashamed by having been a fan of Dave Mustaine. He was always kind of a dick (Metalica kicked him out for it) and he's always been a difficult person, but this hard turn to the right? That's idiotic. It doesn't work out for entertainers- ever. Stephen Baldwin anyone? Kirk Cameron? How's that working?
For the guy who wrote "Peace Sells But Who's Buying" to come out thirty years later as a right-wing jackass is a slap in the face to my youth. It's pretty disgusting. I'm appalled. I really am. Look- you can think those thoughts if you want. But for fuck's sake- for the sake of your career- keep them to yourself! Shit... I gotta say I'm not a fan of Garth Brook's music, but compared to Mustaine, the man comes off like an elder statesman:
You don't align yourself with the loosing side of history! If you're in entertainment and you're a conservative- keep your damn mouth shut. Because you will suffer professionally and you will alienate your fans. My self included. Fuck you, Dave. You broke my heart.
