UPDATE: 9:30am nola time
this is a brief diary - just wanted to post the links to the live coverage of hurricane isaac - the levees in plaquemines and st. bernard parish have been overtopped and people are trapped. the federal levees in new orleans are holding. the flood gates were shut and so far, no flooding!
here is the link with the stations covering now...
please keep these folks in your prayers, or what ever means of sending energy for their rescue.
there is a fire in an historic restaurant in gretna with a report of someone in the building which is now fully involved and fire crews have pulled out due to the danger.
the hurricane is parked and not moving - dumping heavy rain into the new orleans area - up to 11 inches in st bernard parish and much more expected since the storm is virtually stationary.
a bit more beneath the fold...
that the storm is "only" a category one isn't the danger - it is the massive flooding that is now affecting the area - up to 12 ft surge.
this is ongoing for the next two days, at least.
weatherdude - you BETTER be safely out of this area - we need you!
back to the coverage...
