With friends like these, who needs enemies? Wisconsin's Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch spoke at an anti-abortion rally in Madison WI, where she denounced Todd Akin's remarks about 'methods of conception'. She pulled out her thesaurus to come up with as many adjectives as possible: disgusting, abhorrent, reprehensible. insulting, unacceptable. She got the GOP talking points right. "Rape is rape".
"Rape is a rape. I don't know how you can categorize it, and it's disgusting that Todd Akin would have tried to categorize it," Kleefisch said.
In an interview a reporter explained to her GOP legislators' attempts to categorize rape:
The interviewing reporter then informed her that Ryan co-sponsored a bill with Akin aimed at categorizing rape. "Well, I think there is a way to have a more forcible rape, the same way there are different types of assault," Kleefisch responded.
So in less than 60 seconds the Lt. Gov. of the state of Wisconsin (who survived the recall effort) goes from thoroughly denouncing Todd Akin's remarks to reversing course and supporting those of Paul Ryan. This is not only the hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance, but complete ignorance, of the Repubican party today on full display. I doubt that she, a female legislator in Paul Ryan's state, was aware that he co-sponsored this legislation. Here is a woman defending the repugnant comments of Republican men categorizing what types of rape there are, some 'more forcible' than others, to achieve the legislation that is the ultimate desire.
This is what is despicable, repugnant, abhorrent, and unacceptable.
